Vintage 60s art... there was a strange art theme back then of "big eyed" or "sad eyed" children and animals. I read about it in the book Thrift Score and had to have these Go Go teens.




high waist (elastic) leopard skirt... some think leopard is tacky - I think it's excellent. Reminds me of my punk/wannabe Bettie Page high school days.




Just a dress I'm watching but probably won't win. I'm a sucker for bright colors.

These cute fringe sandals are on sale today at F21 for $15.84, marked down from $19.80.

I'm tempted to purchase another pair but I really shouldn't...

This is completely off topic but I have to vent. I am so very frustrated with shopping online right now. This has nothing to do with Ebay - I always have good experiences there. This has to do with Urban Outfitters, HSN (haha, yeah yeah), and Proactiv.

I bought some shorts from Urban and the day I received them in the mail, I noticed they had been marked down an additional $10 online. So frustrating. I contacted customer service to inquire about price adjustments but I haven't heard back and this was 4 days ago. Yay, wasted money. I wish I had waited a week to order them.

My sister is getting married next month and my maid of honor dress is strapless. I bought a pretty expensive strapless corset from HSN and lo and behold, it runs big. So I had to ship that back and pay an additional $7 to ship & insure it. I still need to get a strapless and time is ticking. More wasted money on shipping.

And last but not least, Proactiv does these automatic shipments every 4 months. I forgot I had signed up for 2 lotions & 1 toner. I actually need the regular 3 piece set (cleanser, lotion, toner). So I had to return the incorrect set ($5 to ship it back) and reorder the correct one. And pay shipping on both they mailed to me at $6 a pop... so by the time this is all done I'll have spent $17 on shipping damn Proactiv packages!

I hate wasting money on shipping and handling. BLAH. Rant of the week. I'm not going to buy any more stuff from websites anytime soon. Ebay it is.

big update!

I attempted to purge my closet a bit today and I took a bag of clothes down to Deelux in Costa Mesa. Unfortunately they were having a big weekend sale (20% off everything, not that great I guess but better than nothing) to get rid of a lot of stock, so they weren't buying much. They did take 4 of my items so even though I know I should have taken the cash, I opted for the trade. That store is great for vintage dresses and tops. They always have a great selection under $20. Their selection of skirts and jackets isn't so great. Anyway, here's what I got:

Pretty sure this dress is from the 80s - when tropical dresses were popular. It has pastel hibiscus (my fave!) flowers and a tie neck. Unfortunately it's see through so it will require a slip underneath.



Calico dress, looks homemade. No tag in it. I'm going to shorten and hem it to right at the knee. I might add some eyelet trim to the bottom, we'll see. I've been looking for one like this on Ebay so now I can cross that off my wish list!



Awesome 80s / 70s nautical top. It has a hole on the front that I'm going to try to sew up. It's not on the seam so that's going to make it a challenge. I think I can salvage it. It was $5 so meh, I'll make it work.



The top I bought about a year ago from Deelux. It's vintage. The shorts are new, they're from Urban Outfitters. They're kind of high waisted but they can also be worn lower. I'm in love with them. The fringe sandals are from Forever 21. I want to get a backup pair because I'm obsessed. I have a farmers tan on my arms because of the t-shirt I have to wear when we go on field trips at work. I have a great leg tan, but not so great arm/chest tan.



Vintage 70s owl wrap skirt from Ebay. It's pretty interesting. The seller had a mushroom one too but I lost that. It can also be worn as a tube dress, belted. I love it but I wonder if it looks... too 70s? The owl makes me happy



And the yellow minidress from Ebay. It's really short but I wore it with khaki colored shorts underneath for extra security. You can't see them and I don't feel so naked. I wore this to the fair. Love the cheerful color :)

I mentioned a few entries ago about the leather / Native American goodies I bought at Knott's Berry Farm. Yesterday I took the day off work and went shopping with my friend at Fashion Island. We went to the Urban Outfitters and of course they're selling lots of hippie-esque clothes and accessories, including leather tooled bracelets and beaded hairbands. But they're way, way overpriced. We're talking $24-$30ish for a simple leather cuff that ran me $6 at Knott's. So please, do not purchase that overpriced junk at UO and instead get something cooler and cheaper at a county fair or something. Even Olvera Street sells that stuff for way less.

Which brings me to this... last weekend I went to the Orange County Fair and bought a really cool necklace for a mere $4 at one of the mineral and gem vendor booths. It's a chunk of amethyst and it was hanging on an ugly fake leather cord, but I just put it on one of my gold chains. Looks just like a $30 necklace from UO but instead it's a nice little souvenir of the fair.

I want to start taking pictures of what I'm wearing but I'm so bad with the self timer. And mirror shots don't look good. Any advice for taking pictures alone?

Stylemob

I think I'm a little late to the game (like always) but I just joined this website called Stylemob.
I guess it's kind of like Myspace because it's a social networking site for girls who are obsessed with fashion. You upload your own "looks" and people can comment on them and rate them (although I turned off that feature haha) and friend you if you have similar styles. I never take pictures of my outfits but I guess now I will have to start so I have something to post. Anyway, here is my page. Add me, I hardly have any friends!

I'm off to Westminster Mall really quickly before work to return these ridiculous shorts I bought yesterday at Wet Seal. They looked great in the fitting room but now I realize they are WAY too short. I did get some other cute things which I will post later. I'm totally done shopping for this month. I have to save because I'm going to the Rose Bowl Flea Marker next month for the first time ever and I want to be prepared!

I've had the same desk since I was about 10 years old. I am now 26, so it's about time to upgrade. I've been looking for something kind of retro and modern, but Ikea has had really blah desks for quite some time now and all of the cool ones I see on Room Service are way, WAY out of my budget. Strangely enough, my boyfriend found just what I was looking for at Walmart.com. Yes, Walmart. I am not a Walmart shopper, and I actually feel a little bad about supporting them, but I had to get this. It's Eames looking, orange-y, and in my price range. I also bought a matching file cabinet for extra document storage.

The best thing is that it's FREE shipping to my local store and the desk and file cabinet (plus CA sales tax) cost me a reasonable $215. Not bad for a cute retro desk and file cabinet. Here are links to the desk and file cabinet. There's also a cool printer/TV stand.

I just got paid and I decided that instead of dropping $100 on a shopping spree at F21 (which I tend to do every month unintentionally...) I would hopefully win this amazing vintage owl wrap skirt on Ebay. And I did! I think vintage is way worth the money because it's not as trendy as F21 stuff and while I find myself getting rid of stuff from F21 every closet purging, I never get rid of vintage clothes. I'll post pictures when I get it, and also this adorable vintage yellow mini dress I won as well. The skirt was a little pricey (but way, way under $100 - I'm not that crazy!), but the yellow dress was a steal for $9.99.

Here's the skirt I bought last weekend at an antique store. It was too long... it looked more Laura Ingalls than cute boho. I cut off about 6 inches from the bottom, then sewed on white eyelet ribbon to the bottom. It took me an hour or two because my sewing skills are quite rusty but it turned out really cute and I received a lot of compliments on it.

I haven't been shopping lately... with the exception of these fine items below. I work at a day camp during the summer and last week we took the kids on a field trip to Knott's Berry Farm. Knott's has its own ghost town and Native American village complete with fun little gift shops. I went a little crazy buying leather wristbands and beaded stuff. My favorites are the beaded headband and the Kira wristband (where a woman dressed in prairie attire burned my name on for me).




Thanks to this new blog I found (Waitin Round 2 Be a Millionaire) that had a picture of these lovelies, I'm excitedly awaiting these awesome (and CHEAP! - $19!) fringed sandals from Forever 21. The best thing is that even though they are on the Forever 21 website, they aren't actually visible... you have to either follow that link or search for them by typing sandal into the search box. I'm sure the day they actually realize their mistake and make them visible, they'll sell out in one day. They are really similar to versions from Urban Outfitters but much less dinero of course.


I'm going to the Orange County Fair next weekend so I predict some fun pictures in the future!
