new obsessions

Getting paid once a month is something us school employees learn to live with. But it's super frustrating when May is one of the longest months of the year and I have to behave myself and not buy anything until I get my next check. And no thanks to President Bush - I'm not supposed to receive my economic stimulus check until mid-July! Thanks, thanks a lot. The good news is that my spring '08 grades are coming in and I currently have an A and a B.. waiting for the remaining 2 professors to report. I think a celebration will be in order!

Thanks to my friend Danielle I've become addicted to Sunsilk's Waves of Envy Surf Mist. It reminds me of the now dead John Frieda Ocean Waves. While Sunsilk's doesn't smell like coconuts, it's half the price ($3.24 at Target!) of the Ocean Waves and does a better job IMO. I've been inspired by beachy, wild hair (not to mention Carrie Bradshaw as I've been rewatching old SATC episodes!) and have been using the Surf Mist in addition to trying new things such as adding random mini braids and even French braid pigtails. It's summer - time to unplug the flat iron.

I'm looking for a (cheap) pair of high waisted 70s-esque flared leg jeans. Under $40. I found these for $19.99 at Urban Outfitters but I'm hesitant to purchase because it's hard to tell how flattering they are IRL.



I found these at the Levis site on sale for $34.98. They look the best to me, and the color is exactly what I'm looking for. But I just don't know! Any advice?

In closing, allow me to share the best pair of summer sandals I've come across... they must be mine!

new vintage finds

I've had a huge bag of clothes sitting around that I've been meaning to sell to Buffalo Exchange and Deelux. I finally sold this weekend and in addition to getting some cash, I also found these two adorable dresses. I think they're from the 70s. The chevron striped one had a seam coming apart right across the front, but it was easily fixable on the machine. By asking nicely, I got them to knock off a few dollars. The peach one is just perfect and has ties at the shoulders and waist.

I need to go to Deelux more often. They have some wonderful vintage clothes for great prices. Ebay is so overpriced. I got both of these dresses for $33.

Even though it's Memorial Day weekend and the semi-official start of summer, it's been rainy and cool here in southern California. It's kind of depressing because I want to break out the warm weather clothes but I'm back to wearing boots and coats this weekend!

Non-fashion related but almost equally good: strawberry wafers, $1.03 at Target (at least the Long Beach Target.. these are in the Mexican cookie section).

Now that I'm out of school for the summer I have to try to find ways to entertain myself other than writing 10 page papers and reading about case studies. The plan of attack to beat boredom (other than working of course) is to try to make some clothes. My mom has a box full of 70s sewing patterns like apron dresses, high waisted skirts, maxi dresses, and short shorts. We made a dress together 2 years ago... it took about a month because we had other things going on but it definitely made me excited to make more.

Now I miss those shoes so much. But they were a safety issue.. they almost made me break an ankle once or twice. So I had to sell them to Deelux :( I learned my lesson to use a better material next time, as the cotton I used feels rough and bled color a bit. Lucky for me, my aunt recently gave me a stack of 70s poly fabric. There's some cute stuff in there, waiting to made into some dresses and skirts. I'll take some pictures of the patterns I'm considering and show them later.

Another activity I've taken up to keep me busy is stitchery. I found someone selling a bunch of vintage 70s stitchery kits on Ebay. They'll make cute and kitschy art for my boyfriend's house and for whatever else. These are actually pretty easy to do - I'm not very good at complicated craft projects and I hate to follow directions but stitchery/counted cross stitch is a breeze.

Another thing to add to my current list of wants:

A pair of Minnetonka fringe booties. The kind with the treading on the bottom. These just scream hippie summer to me. Why oh why do I have to wait until July to get my stimulus check?!

Welcome to my first post. I've been inspired lately by all of these fun fashion blogs I keep running across so I decided to start my own to show off my finds and fixations. This will definitely be a budget friendly blog, as I'm kind of financially challenged. I don't promise anything super amazing but just what I personally love.

Starting off, I'd like to share my latest Ebay win:

I came across this 12 minutes before the auction ended and quickly put in a bid. Surprise surprise.. I won. I plan on wearing this to my sister's wedding shower next weekend, with some brown t-strap closed toe wedges.

In other news, I'm kind of sad because two things I was lusting after at Forever 21 are now no longer available online. One was a feather and bead hair band, similar to ones at Urban Outfitters and the other was a white eyelet bra. All I can say is that if you see something you like at F21.com, you need to order it ASAP because the good stuff goes fast and good luck finding it in a store.
